LWG Gold Certificate Awarded to Farida Prime Tannery Private Limited, Ambur, Tamil Nadu, India

Farida Prime Tannery Private Limited (FPTPL) in Ambur, Tamil Nadu has been awarded LWG Gold Certificate under Quantum Systems able guidance, which the company says is cementing its commitment to Sustainable Leather Production. This was the 3rd LWG Certification Audit for FPTPL. FPTPL A & B Units are located within one compound in Thuthipet village near Ambur, about 200 KM from Chennai on northern direction towards Bengaluru. This tannery is a part of Farida Group of Companies which is having interest in tanneries, footwear manufacturing in India, Bangladesh and Ethiopia. The tannery mainly processes tanned hides / skins to finished leather and also undertake crust to finished leather operation. Majority of the finished leathers are exported and a small quantity is sent to shoe factories of own group. The tannery produces footwear leather, lining leather and leather for leather goods for brands like Timberland, Deckers, Clarks, Dansko, Rockport and Michael Kors etc. Farida Prime Tannery Pvt Ltd has their own full-fledged WWTP operated based on Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system. RO permeate is recycled and rejects are evaporated in multiple effect evaporator. While the ETP sludge is sent to cement factory for coprocessing, the recovered salt from evaporator is stored in shed with impervious flooring as per the Guidelines of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB).

FPTPL prefers sourcing of Part Processed Leather from LWG Audited Suppliers and has exerted a mandate of minimum 80% Part Processed Wetblue Sourcing from LWG Audited Tanneries or Traders. Purchase Orders of the Wetblue Procurement are done telephonically or through Email Confirmation. Upon receipt of Input Materials & the Final Invoice from the Trader or Wetblue Supplier. Upon receipt of Input Materials & the Final Invoice from the Part-Processed Material Supplier or Trader the Payment is released. FPTPL Procurement Team ensures thorough validation of the Procurement Transaction Documents wherein the Part Processed Material Supplier’s Shipping Address needs to match with the LWG Audited Supplier’s Address mentioned on the LWG Certificate or LWG Website. The company is ISO 14001:2015 Certified. There is also a comprehensive, robust in-house written environmental policy for the company which has been communicated effectively to facility staff through training, meetings and notice boards.
