Sarg Tannery in Egypt has been awarded LWG Gold Certificate under Quantum Systems able guidance, which the company says is cementing its commitment to Sustainable Leather Production. This is the 1st LWG audit for Sarg Tannery. The Tannery is a Raw to Crust & Finished Leather Manufacturing Unit located in Robbiki Leather Complex, Cairo, Egypt with many other Tanneries and Small Leather Goods Manufacturing Units around. There are about 150 Tanneries in this area. The facility covers Built Up Area of 5538 Square Meter. This Tannery started its Manufacturing Operations from 2018 in the Robbiki Leather Complex. The Company sources primarily Ox, Heifer, Buff & Buff Calf Hide from Local Raw Hide Traders. The quality and allure of the collection is matched by the sustainability and singularity of this locally sourced leather.

Once located in downtown Cairo, close to the Nile River, Sarg Tannery was one of the first tanneries to join, back in 2016, the Robbiki Leather City (RLC), a newly developed industrial cluster implemented in accordance with the Egypt Vision 2030 program. Transferring and relocating old tanneries to the RLC contributed to overcoming one of the main sources of pollution in Cairo where wastes and waste water were not treated and directly released in the Nile River. “Moving their factory to the Robbiki Leather City with all its state-of-the-art equipment and facilities has raised the standard of their leather production to match the quality of Italian leather,” explains Mahmoud Sarg, Chairman of the Sarg Tannery as well as Chairman of the Leather Export Council of Egypt.

The Tannery has achieved an ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Certification for their Robbiki Unit. The Tannery is connected to an approved Common Effluent Treatment Plant in Robbiki Leather Complex. The Common Effluent Treatment Plant in Robbiki Leather Complex is managed by Sanitary Drainage Authority for Greater Cairo (GCSDC), a Public Sector Government Undertaking operational under the direct control of Industrial & Mining Projects Authority (IMPA), Ministry of Trade & Industry & Industrial Development Authority (IDA). As per Local Environmental Legislations, the Tannery discharges its Untreated Effluent to the CETPR for Primary, Secondary & Tertiary Effluent Treatment. Finally, the Treated Effluent discharged from the Robbiki CETPR Outlet is routed for Reuse in Irrigation as per Local Environmental Legislation.

The LWG GOLD Award received by Sarg Tannery at its plant in Robbiki Leather Complex highlights the relentless efforts made in terms of Environmental Sustainability Initiatives. Since 2018, Sarg Tannery has designed and developed innovative and luxurious natural leathers for Leather Goods Manufacturing, Upholstery and Footwear Industries. Sarg Tannery is committed to exercising faithful corporate citizenship through compliance with all environmental laws and regulations. Minimal impact to air, water, and land by their Environmental Stewardship Practices and activities is the ultimate measure of their success.
