BRCGS FOR PACKAGING MATERIALS
BRITISH RETAIL CONSORTIUM GLOBAL STANDARD FOR PACKAGING MATERIALS
Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards (BRCGS), previously known as the British Retail Consortium (BRC), is a global standard that was developed and published in 1998. It was the first standard to be recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) that ensures the standardization of Quality, Safety, Legality, and Operational principles, which fosters confidence throughout the whole supply chain. The BRCGS comprises three major categories: Food Safety, Consumer Products, and Packaging Materials. The standard, focusing on packaging materials helps organizations deliver products safely with hygienic food. By using a hazard and risk-based approach that addresses site cleanliness standards, printed packaging controls, product inspection, control of foreign bodies, certified organizations and their customers can be confident in the result of the Quality management system. The BRCGS Global Standard for Packaging Materials issue 6 was published and released in August 2019, to replace issue 5 after the final draft (released in January 2019) had been reviewed and amended. The standard is applicable for operations that: Produce packaging materials for conversion or printing, Supply packaging materials from stock where additional product processing or repacking occurs & Manufacture and supply other unconverted or semi-converted and used or incorporated. The Standard provides a Robust Framework for all types of Packaging Manufacturer to assist them in the Production of Safe Packaging Materials and to manage Product Quality to meet Customers’ Requirements. The Standard has been developed to specify the Product Safety, Quality & Operational Criteria that must be in place within a Packaging Manufacturing Organization in order for it to fulfil its Obligations with regard to Legal Compliance & Protection of the Consumer.
