BRITISH RETAIL CONSORTIUM GLOBAL STANDARD FOR CONSUMER PRODUCTS

BRCGS stands for Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards formerly known as BRC (British Retail Consortium) ensures the standardization of Quality, Safety, Legality, and Operational principles, which fosters confidence throughout the whole supply chain. The overall consumer products market is forecast to grow at an average of 5% per year. Industry adoption and use of BRCGS Certification have increased by 11% year on year, with over 700 certificated sites in 48 countries. The Consumer Products Standard provides a comprehensive, world-class solution that is based on risk management and best practices. This is demonstrated by the fact that more global brand owners and retailers accept and specify the Consumer Products Certification than any other scheme. The standard was fully revised in 2016, for Consumer Products that cover two Distinct Areas: General Merchandise, and Personal Care & Household. Each of the Standards can be Certified either at Foundation Level or at Higher Level. This enables flexibility to reflect customers' needs depending on the product sector and product/brand risk that provides a clear pathway for continuous development. The two standards emphasize the significance of management commitment, product risk assessments to ensure that the product's design is safe prior to production, Process risk assessments as a tool to ensure that potential issues in the production of the products have been understood, prioritized, effectively managed with the maintenance of the factory and production environment to ensure that this is suitable to manufacture and protects products from contamination.
