ISO/TS 16949:2016, a Technical Specification for Automotive Sector Quality Management Systems published by IATF, has become one of the most widely used International Standards in the Automotive Industry, harmonizing the different Assessment and Certification Systems in the Global Automotive Supply Chain. ISO 16949:2016 facilitates development of a robust QMS that facilitates Continual Improvement, Emphasizes Defect Prevention, and helps Reduce Variation & Waste in the Supply Chain, with consideration of Product Safety and Embedded Software. ISO/TS 16949:2016 follows the Standardized High-Level Structure (HLS) to foster Consistency, Harmonization, Compatibility, and Integration with Other ISO Standards. ISO/TS 16949:2016 facilitates alignment of the Automotive Industry related Quality Policy, Objectives, Performance Criteria and Certification Scope compatible with the Context & Strategic Direction of the Organization. IATF 16949 is aligned with ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems standard and fully respecting this structure and requirements. Certification to IATF 16949 is mandatory for organizations who wish to manufacture parts for the automotive industry. IATF 16949:2016 is the International Standard for Automotive Quality Management Systems. IATF 16949 was jointly developed by The International Automotive Task Force (IATF) members and submitted to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for approval and publication. ISO/TS 16949, a technical specification for automotive sector quality management systems, has become one of the most widely used international standards in the automotive industry, harmonizing the different assessment and certification systems in the global automotive supply chain. On 3rd October 2016, IATF 16949:2016 was published by the IATF and supersedes and replaces the current ISO/TS 16949, defining the requirements of a quality management system for organizations in the automotive industry.
