The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI)—now known simply as Better Cotton—is the world’s largest sustainability programme for cotton, aimed at transforming global cotton production by promoting more responsible farming practices, enhanced supply chain transparency, and improved social, environmental, and economic outcomes for cotton-growing communities. Better Cotton focuses on reducing the environmental footprint of cotton cultivation, optimising water use, improving soil health, eliminating harmful pesticides, protecting biodiversity, ensuring decent working conditions, and strengthening smallholder livelihoods. For brands and supply chain partners, BCI certification is a mark of responsible sourcing and compliance with global sustainability expectations.
