LEATHER WORKING GROUP COMMISSIONING MANUFACTURER AUDIT

The LWG Commissioning Manufacturer Audit Standard is a specialised framework developed by the Leather Working Group (LWG) to assess manufacturers who process hides and skins on behalf of client tanneries or brands, ensuring that they operate with full environmental integrity, chemical compliance, and responsible production practices even though they do not own the raw materials themselves. This audit standard evaluates the commissioning manufacturer’s ability to manage chemical inputs in accordance with LWG’s MRSL, maintain robust traceability controls, implement efficient water and energy management systems, ensure safe and compliant effluent and emissions handling, uphold worker health and safety, maintain infrastructure integrity, control process risks, and meet ethical and social compliance expectations. It also focuses on material segregation, calibration of equipment, emergency preparedness, waste minimisation, responsible chemical storage, and environmental data monitoring—ensuring that every commissioned process aligns with global best practices and the sustainability expectations of international leather supply chains.
